Hewigo helps Woody’s to build a family affair
Although having run a successful business abroad, David Wood has not been in fish & chips for very long. Yet, alongside wife Helen and son Chris, he is already setting recognised high standards at shops in the Shafton and recently opened Monk Bretton areas of Barnsley.
“Whilst you’ve got to run a business in your own way, it always helps to get the right advice,” says David. “We got excellent practical help from Hewigo when we met them at the exhibition in Donington and it is one of the main reasons we bought their 3-pan High Efficiency range for our new Monk Bretton shop. The range offered exceptional value for money for this standard of range, it’s very fast with marvellous recovery time, helps us produce a high standard of food and saves us money.”
Hewigo ranges are easy to clean and maintain which is very important to David who is passionate about health and safety. This has resulted in Woody’s being awarded the top ’five stars rating’ in Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council’s ’Scores on the Doors’ for its high standard of food hygiene. “We are really committed to making this work,” adds David, “and plan to open other shops under the Woody’s brand name with the help of excellent suppliers like Hewigo.”
More help will come from son Chris who is currently working on an extensive project on the fish and chip industry at Leeds Metro University. The aim of the project is to identify a clear market direction for fish & chips within the take-away trade. “There’s a lot of research on the take-away trade in general but not much specifically on fish & chips,” says Chris. “It is a traditional market but in the right hands has a great future.”
Phillip Purkiss General Manager of Hewigo UK comments, “David, Helen and Chris work very hard and believe if you do something you should do it well. It’s good to know that Hewigo are part of their present and future plans.”
