Charnwood and Hewigo show what the industry is made of
Should anyone go looking for an example of how the fish and chip shop world is getting its act together, they could do no better than a visit to the Charnwood Fish Bar and Kebab House in Shepshed.
Here, George Charalambous has brought together his 30 years of experiences in the trade to extend and transform his shop into a fine take-away and restaurant. At the heart of this conversion is a Hewigo Advantage 4-pan High Efficiency range with three servery counters – one to accommodate heated and refrigerated display and a counter window return which can be seen at the front of the shop through the full length glass windows.
The range boasts the acclaimed Hewigo refinements plus a number of new features such as the computerised touch-screen temperature controls and timers. Each is located at eye-level for maximum convenience and offers five different temperature settings at a simple touch. The display cabinet is fitted with Toshiba jacketed heat lamps that are specially designed for heating food and jacketed for protection against contamination. Candescent curved stainless front and side panels are lit by a programmable multi-coloured LED system to give endless display options. “I can’t wait for Christmas,” says George, anticipating how he can festively decorate his range.
The strong black and red graphics on the outside signage say ‘eatinout’ and this is exactly what it is. “Customers have a choice to eat their food away or take it into the seating area,” says George. “It seems very popular and of course we always have the option to turn it into a full restaurant. With a frying range that has so much capability we can be very flexible as demand grows.”
